The gameplay of Huarong Path is quite simple: By moving various pieces on the board, the player must help Cao Cao navigate from the starting position to the middle lower section of the board and ultimately escape through the exit.

Players are not allowed to jump over pieces and must strategically use the fewest number of moves to guide Cao Cao to the exit.

The biggest obstacle for Cao Cao in escaping through the Huarong Path is Guan Yu, who immediately blocks the path like a single man holding a narrow pass that no one can cross.

Guan Yu and Cao Cao are indeed key figures in unlocking this game. The four soldiers of Liu Bei are the most versatile and also the easiest to deal with; therefore, how to utilize their roles must be carefully considered.

Originating from the famous Three Kingdoms story, the Huarong Path game depicts Cao Cao's defeat by Liu Bei and Sun Quan's strategic tactics in the Battle of Chibi. Forced to retreat to the Huarong Path and facing Zhuge Liang's ambush, Guan Yu, in gratitude for past favors from Cao Cao, assists him in ultimately escaping through the path.

The game is based on the storyline: "Cao Cao defeated retreats through Huarong; Narrowly encountering Guan Yu. Only because of past kindnesses, opening the gold lock to unleash the dragon."
